Mylor Heritage Society engaged Heritage Stone Restorations to oversee the conservation and restoration of the Mylor Boot Maker's Shop. HSR very kindly offered to supply conservation materials free of charge, and are keen to involve volunteer labour.
Such a project does not come cheap, so we are looking at several options for funding the work. Grant applications and money raising events are planned to fund the estimated $16000 required. Recruitment of volunteer workers will commence once we have attained sufficient funding. So far we have...
- acquitted a $2,000 grant from the 2008 round of Adelaide Hills Council Community Grants
- acquitted a $3,000 grant from the Rural Towns Development Fund
- collected donations of $2400, pledges of money to about the same value, plus pledges of several hours of skilled and unskilled volunteer labour
- won a grant of $1475 to produce a booklet on the history of the Mylor Boot Maker's Shop
- run sausage sizzles and cake stalls
- acquitted a grant of $2000 from the 2011 round of AHC Community Grants for the construction of the fireplace and chimney
- raised $2000 with the successful 'Wine and Roses" Art show and Photography competition (Oct 22-23)
- raised almost $3000 at the Rockford event held on Sunday 20th November 2011
Once complete, the Boot Maker's Shop will be an important centerpiece of the town's earliest history.
